Julii Cory Catfish (Corydoras julii)

Imported European Fish

Corydoras julii is a fairly popular species of corydoras in the hobby, and with their beautiful black spotted pattern on a silvery base, it is easy to see why. Originally collected from a few different states of Brazil, do not confuse them with Corydoras trilineatus, which is the “three lined” corydoras, but is so similar that it is referred to also as the “false julii cory”. These corydoras get to about 2 ½ inches long, and about 1 ¼ inches tall, and are a very fun shape to see swimming around in your aquarium, as they tend to do. These little fish are going to want to have a school of around 6 or so to be comfortable, and in that case they will hang out right in the open, sitting around and waiting for you to throw food in!

When collected from the wild, these fish would be found in fairly acidic conditions with little to no hardness, but they are quite adaptable, and you can keep them in weakly alkaline water that is up to about 250ppm hardness or so. The most important factor is that you would want a filter which is doing its job very well, as corydoras dig around the substrate to feed constantly, and as such tend to stir up particles into the water. These are great fish to clean up leftover food in the aquarium, but do make sure that you supplement their diet with wafers and sinking tablets in order to get them the nutrients that they need. These fish also appreciate a lot of decorations, both in branches and leaf litter, which provide both hiding places as well as a grazing surface for the fish to eat upon constantly. Besides this, these fish also appreciate a densely planted tank, because they like to hide in plants as well.

When considering tankmates for this species of small catfish, you are not very restricted, as they are a peaceful species which does not do any harm to any other things, while being robust enough to take some larger more aggressive species. Regardless of what you choose to keep with these fish, they will bring you enjoyment for years to come! These fish ship individually bagged.

I just received my shipment of Corys and this little guy was definitely an eye catcher when I opened the box. He is gorgeously colored and very active!
