These breeder pairs of the stunning Chocolate Lyretail Killifish are from our absolutely favorite collection point for these fish -- Cap Esterias. The males resemble standard Aphyosemion australe, but their tails blend and morph into a unique blend of white, orange and the most gorgeous chocolate color you'll ever see on a killifish. The females are very much plain-looking, not uncommon for this species.

This color morph is a truly mesmerizing freshwater fish species that hails from the lush coastal regions of West Africa. Renowned for its stunning colors and intriguing behavior, this fish has become a sought-after gem in the aquarium hobby. Aphyosemion australe is indigenous to the West African countries of Nigeria, Cameroon, and Equatorial Guinea. It primarily inhabits shallow waters such as streams, swamps, and temporary pools during the rainy season. These environments are characterized by densely vegetated areas and slow-moving waters, which influence the fish's behavior and care needs in captivity.

One of the standout features of Aphyosemion australe is its vibrant and intricate coloration. Adult males showcase an impressive array of colors, including rich blues, fiery reds, and vivid yellows. These colors are often organized into intricate patterns that vary between individuals and populations. Females, while less colorful, possess a subtle beauty with their olive-brown tones and intricate markings.

Aphyosemion australe is generally peaceful, making it a suitable addition to community aquariums. However, keep them with non-aggressive tankmates of similar size to prevent competition for resources. Small tetras, rasboras, and dwarf cichlids are excellent companions. BEWARE: These fish are legendary jumpers, so an aquarium lid is absolutely necessary!

As omnivores, Golden Wonder Killifish thrive on a diverse diet. Offer a mix of high-quality flake foods, freeze-dried or frozen brine shrimp, daphnia, but please avoid tubifex and bloodworms as these two foods cause bloating and sometimes death. A safe, healthy, varied diet contributes to their health, color vibrancy, and overall vitality. These fish ship one pair per bag.
