Description

Thanks to our German Partners at Aquarium Glaser, we are able to offer a very select few pairs and trios of an incredibly beautiful wild-form Platy, the Puente Escalanar Platy. These fish were born and raised in Germany, but the ancestors of these animals were collected in 2002 in Puente Escalanar, Veracruz, Mexico by private individuals and brought back to Germany. Since then, these animals have enthused the livebearer fish-keeping community.

A special characteristic of these animals is the sickle-shaped tail-root-spot, which all specimens, males and females, show. There are two basic coloration types for males. First, there are specimens with tiger stripes on the flanks of the front body and the second type have wonderful black dots where the tiger stripes would be. Dominant specimens of the “tiger” variety become quince-yellow, with the dotted variety holding a blue shimmer in the front body. Particularly beautiful are the sky-blue scales, which some males of the tigered form show along the mid of the front body.

These are lively, very healthy animals whose behavior has remained very original. When they are worried, they join together to form a swarm of fish in the center of the aquarium, which is very rarely observed among the domesticated tribes that have been around for a hundred years.
