Description

Proserpinaca palustris is known by several common names such as Saw-Toothed Hygrophila, Marsh Mermaid Weed or simply Common Mermaid Weed and is native to the United States, the Caribbean and Central America. This vibrant green stem plant has a unique appearance due to its spiky, saw-like leaf shape, and as stem plants go it is a slower growing species which appeals to many aquarists. Its native habitat is swamps, bogs, ponds and marshes but giving this plant at least medium lighting and good water column fertilization should result in a steadily growing cluster of stems that will really stand out in your aquarium. This plant grows best in soft, slightly acidic water but it is very tolerant of a wide range of water conditions. This is a cluster of fully rooted aquarium plants averaging 8 stems and was grown submerged (totally under water) in our own farm aquariums. Live aquarium plants may contain snails.
