Shipping & Returns


Online orders of live animals ship only via UPS Next Day Air or FedEx Express Overnight. Online orders of live plants, fish foods, aquarium plant fertilizers and other non-live animal items ship via USPS Priority Mail. For online customers ordering both live animals and non-live animal items, we reserve the right to combine orders into a single package to be sent with the faster, more premium service at no additional cost to the customer. Shipping fees paid to us are forwarded to the carrier for your service. Because we do not provide shipping or delivery services, shipping fees paid to us are not refundable.

We cannot ship live animals internationally; we do ship live animals to all 50 US States, including Alaska and Hawaii. Hawaii residents MUST possess a State-issued Wildlife Import license in order to receive live animals shipped in from outside of Hawaii.

Hawaii Residents: By placing your order with Red Fish Blue Fish, you certify and affirm that you possess the mandatory State-issued Wildlife Import license and will provide us with a copy of said license so that we may ship your order to you. Your order will not be shipped until we receive a copy of your license. After your order has been placed, you must email a digital copy of your Import license to us. Orders placed with us for delivery to Hawaii will be held for a maximum of one week. If we have not received your Import license within that week, the order is forfeited and your money will be refunded with a 15% penalty fee withheld. It is your responsibility to provide us with a copy of your Hawaii State-Issued Import License without delay.

Live Animals are shipped Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Certain animals such as Plecostomus must be fasted at least one full day prior to shipping. We make no guarantee regarding a specific date when your Live Animal order will ship to you; the conditions surrounding weather, fasting, holidays and the like make accurately predicting ship dates impossible. Live Plants and Dry goods (Fish Food, Fish Medications, Aquarium Fertilizers, etc.) ship via USPS Priority as soon as possible, usually same day or next day depending on what day of the week the order was placed.


We are experts at packing and shipping live plants and animals, but once we release a package for delivery via the carrier, we no longer have control of the goods. DOAs are rare but they do occur, so it is imperative that you send us your DOA claims for plants and animals in accordance with this policy. Each carrier we use electronically registers the time and date each package was delivered, and it is the customer’s responsibility to report any DOAs within two (2) hours of receiving their orders. Live Animal shipments must be delivered on the first delivery attempt, otherwise there is no DOA Claims Coverage. Each DOA claim must include a clear digital photograph or video showing the DOA plant or animal still sealed in the original plastic bag. If you had the carrier forward your shipment to an address other than where we originally shipped it to, there is no DOA Claims Coverage. Customers must report DOAs to us through our website ( Any DOA claim made to us outside of this policy’s terms will be denied, and under no circumstances will an exception be made. Valid DOA claims are always honored, and full credit will be issued to your customer account for valid DOA claims.
