Description
Do you like brightly colored nano fish all schooling together, darting through your planted aquarium? The Ruby Tetra, Axelrodia riesei, which originates from the lush ecosystems of the Amazon River basin and its tributaries, will prove a welcome addition to your fish tank! In their natural habitat, they thrive in slow-flowing soft waters, often sheltered by dense vegetation and shaded by overhanging trees. Despite their vibrant colors, they have evolved to thrive in their natural surroundings, making them a marvel in the wild.
These fish will do well in a variety of water conditions, although they most prefer soft, slightly acidic water. Water with a Ph of 6.5 to 7.5 should do well for them. As for temperature, their water should be at anywhere from 70F to 78F. Due to their small size and timid nature, they do not do well with predators or otherwise aggressive fish. Ruby Tetras are a very good schooling fish, so you should always keep them in groups of eight or more; their natural schooling instinct will add visual appeal to your tank while also providing a sense of safety for the fish.
Ruby Tetras will readily accept flake food, baby brine shrimp, daphnia, and a variety of other small foods, both natural and prepared. They appreciate having plants for cover, or at least wood and rocks for décor in your aquarium to congregate near. They will sometime dash behind rocks and plants for cover, which is normal schooling fish behavior. These fish do not ship individually bagged.
