In high demand ever since their introduction to the hobby, the Emerald Dwarf Rasbora (Celestichthys erythromicron) is a captivating and tiny freshwater fish originating from Lake Inle in Myanmar. This species thrives in the shallow, clear, and densely vegetated margins of the lake, characterized by a loamy substrate. For optimal care in an aquarium, these peaceful and somewhat shy fish should be housed in groups of at least 6-8 individuals, preferably more, to encourage their natural shoaling behavior and minimize stress. A minimum tank size of 10 gallons is recommended, though a 20-gallon or larger setup is ideal for larger groups and better water stability. Replicating their natural habitat is key, so provide a heavily planted tank with plenty of hiding spots using live plants, driftwood, and rocks. Dim lighting can also help them feel more secure. Maintain clean, well-filtered water with a gentle current, a temperature range of 68-78°F (20-26°C), a pH of 6.5-7.5, and soft to moderately hard water. They prefer neutral to slightly alkaline water and may not thrive in acidic conditions. A varied diet of high-quality flakes, micro pellets, and frozen or live foods like Daphnia, baby brine shrimp, and microworms is essential to maintain their vibrant colors and overall health. Regular water changes are also crucial for maintaining optimal water quality. With proper care and a suitable environment, Emerald Dwarf Rasboras can live for 3 to 5 years. These fish do not ship individually bagged.
