Description
Some 25 years ago, a group of these small fish were imported from Brazil into Germany. These were an unknown species and to make matter worse, no collection notes were available for these animals. The only thing known is that they were from Brazil. Luckily for us the Germans were successful in breeding these fish in captivity long before we finally discovered that these fish are from the State of Mato Grosso in Brazil, specifically from the upper parts of the Rio Juruena and Rio Guaporé. For more than 20 years, we have simple known these fish as the Imperial Lapis Tetra. These fish are now known in scientific circles as Hyphessobrycon cyanotaenia, and they are only rarely offered for sale, and almost never in the sizes that we have on hand. The larger specimens we have are almost 1.5" in length! This is a peaceful fish which appreciates clean, soft water, non-aggressive tankmates, and is not particularly difficult to keep. The thick black lateral line down the center of the fish's flank is bordered by a bright neon blue, and higher up on the back of the fish this neon blue gives way to a deep green-yellow amber tone. This is one of the most beautiful and most sought-after tetras from Brazil these days. This fish does not ship individually-bagged.
