Cochu's Blue Tetra / Blue King Tetra (Boehlkea fredcochui)

Boehlkea fredcochui, commonly known as the Cochu's Blue Tetra and the Blue King Tetra, is a species of characin with a huge natural range.  Found all throughout the Amazon Basin, this fish is named in honor of the famous tropical fish importer Ferdinand "Fred" Cochu of the Paramount Aquarium. Mr. Cochu introduced this beautiful blue freshwater species to the aquarium hobby in 1956. These are quite active fish who never seem to stay still for very long. Because of their high activity levels, they have a reputation for engaging in fish chasing and fin nipping activity when placed in an aquarium with smaller more docile fish, or with other long-finned fish such as guppies and other veil-tailed varieties. Each of these fish seems to glow with an inner blue light, even in darker aquariums. Boehlkea fredcochui fish is a particular standout in planted aquariums and in aquascapes due to their activity levels and glowing blue color. As they zip and dart through your planted paradise, they shimmer with a magical quality that few other fish can achieve.
