Description
Originating from coastal drainages in South America from Rio de Janeiro to Santa Catarina, Brazil there is a catfish, in fact a true Corydoras, which has one of the wildest and most intriguing adult color forms of all the smaller catfish species found in the entire continent. The banded corydoras or bearded catfish (Scleromystax barbatus) is a rare subtropical freshwater fish belonging to the subfamily Corydoradinae of the family Callichthyidae which, when in adult form, sports a very dark dusky brown color, but one that is overlaid with intricate dull golden speckles and shapes. These shapes form patterns on the fish's face and body which one can only describe as mesmerizing. While these are a peaceful fish, the males of the species are territorial and will chase away other males of the species. Please be aware that you will receive adolescent fish which are not yet showing the classic adult coloration pattern. These fish ship individually bagged, one fish per bag.
