Description
From the Amapá region of Brazil, we are proud to offer the aptly-named Amapa Tetra, formally known as Hyphessobrycon amapaensis. Specifically, they are found in the Rio Preto and Rio Maraca drainage systems. These are a small silver-gold bodied fish with an interesting array of colors making up its lateral line. Brassy-Gold, ruby and black lines all come together to form a composite lateral line which runs from the fish's gill-plate edge to the caudal terminus. These wonderful schooling fish inhabit small streams with a sandy or gravel bottom. These streams often flow through savanna grasslands, and these fish prefer densely vegetated areas with submerged plants and driftwood which offer shelter and security. Of note, the water these fish are native to measures very low in TDS and is soft and acidic, often tinted a light brown hue due to the breakdown of organics present in the water. This fish does not ship individually-bagged.
